Blue Skies : Short Poem

You reminded me of the blue skies during thunderstorms, the sun during rainy days and the feeling of warmth during the winter weather.
Maybe it's the way you looked at me through your glasses with your beautiful dark eyes or the way your glances turned into the feeling of summer, the peaceful and bright days.
You reminded me of driving around California and staying in the Malibu beaches and how the radio played that lullaby, that lullaby that made me sleep during afternoons.
Speaking about you seemed so soothing to my throat, as if my words were lemon drops when I'm having a cold.
You reminded me the scent of freshly baked cupcakes during Christmas and how happy I was when I unwrapped all the presents as a child.
You reminded me that desirable feeling when I write and sing with passion.
You reminded the sound of the music that my mother sings to make me fall asleep.
You were like the rainbow in the sky after a heavy rainfall, the beautiful sunset after a horrid day.
You reminded me of so many other things but I feel like my words aren't enough to describe you.
But by the end of the day, you reminded me more of the blue sky.
The blue sky which I look upon during a sunny day, the blue sky  that could make me feel at peace.

13, A New Chapter

Another year, another birthday.

Happy Birthday to the person who still acts like an eight year old around her family and friends.
Happy Birthday to the person who'll always take pictures of little things to stick it to her journal.
Happy Birthday to me.

Last night, before I turned thirteen, I experienced the little things I didn't experience before thirteen. I experienced singing and dancing in the car with my older friends like weirdos, walking around the city when everyone was at home, sleeping. And when the clock pointed at 12, I felt like a whole new person.

I realize that birthdays aren't about the parties that you plan and gifts that others give. While I was sitting in the car at 12 AM, I began to realize that it's all about the little things that can make your birthday like a grand ball. I realize that it's about the little things in life, the cherished moments and the weird dancing.

Who knew I would realize those things inside a car at midnight?

I know that life won't become easier as I age, but I'm ready for the responsibilities. I'm ready to step in, to have more adventures. I'm ready to take a step further in life.
